2021 Volvo S60 vs. 2021 Infiniti Q50: When Options, Efficiency, and Safety Count

2021 Volvo S60 vs. 2021 Infiniti Q50: When Options, Efficiency, and Safety Count

The S60 is designed for drivers who don't follow the same path as everyone else. This sedan helps you establish a close connection with the road and get the most out of it. Scandinavian style, efficient powertrains, advanced engineering and renowned safety are just the beginning.

To illustrate, we compare the 2021 Volvo S60 to the 2021 Infiniti Q50.

The 2021 Volvo S60 is better in efficiency and overall power

The S60 delivers three powerful and efficient engine options that satisfy your driving pedigree. The base T5 engine is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that develops 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Volvo also makes available the T6, a 316-horsepower option that offers a little more.

The S60 Recharge puts it all together in a hybrid system. You won't find a hybrid option with the Infiniti Q50. The Recharge features the T8e that outputs an impressive 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque. With a fuel consumption rating of 8.4/7.0 L/100 km (city/highway). There’s also the Polestar Engineered version which deploys 415 horsepower.

The Q50's powertrains are based on a 3.0-litre, twin-turbo six-cylinder engine. One option manages 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque in standard models. The Red Sport I-Line grades increase output to 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. However, the Polestar Engineered S60 has more power and more torque.

The 2021 Volvo S60 is recognized for safety

Volvo doesn't rely on the past to uphold its reputation for safety. Each updated vehicle is crafted to pass rigorous standards, and the 2021 S60 earns its own recognition. IIHS designates the S60 as a 2021 Top Safety Pick+, receiving consistently high ratings in crashworthiness, crash avoidance and mitigation, and more. The Infiniti Q50 did not earn the same designation when tested.

While the Infiniti Q50 seems to be stuck in the early 2000’s in terms of interior style and technologies, the S60 moves forward with better infotainment thanks to the intuitive Sensus system, better interior appointments and finishes and better technologies like the Pilot Assist system.
