2021 Volvo S60 vs. 2021 Lexus IS: More Advanced and Efficient

2021 Volvo S60 vs. 2021 Lexus IS: More Advanced and Efficient

Volvo has some great news: the sedan isn't dead. One reason is because the S60 injects a refreshing take on what a sedan can be in a sea of crossovers. With grand style, modern powertrains and technology, and interior comfort and versatility, the S60 provides all the reasons to fall in love with a sedan … again.

To illustrate why it's one of the best sedans on the road today, we compare it to the 2021 Lexus IS.

The 2021 S60 is far ahead in powertrain capability and efficiency

The S60 series features powertrain and grade options that help you personalize the S60, creating the best vehicle for you. All petrol models feature the T5, which is a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that outputs 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.

The S60 lineup also includes something the Lexus IS doesn't have—a hybrid powertrain. The T8e system in the S60 Recharge is not a low-powered engine that saves fuel, but delivers 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque while leaving the consumption footprint of a much smaller engine.

The Lexus IS offers two engines. The rear-wheel drive IS 300 includes a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that outputs 241 horsepower. Although some drivers don't mind RWD, it's less practical. The fuel consumption of the IS 300 also rates at 11.0/7.6 L/100 km (city/highway), which is much higher than the T5-equipped S60 models at 10.0/6.8 L/100 km.

The second powertrain in the IS lineup is a 3.5-litre V6 that powers the IS 300 and IS 350. It outputs up to 311 horsepower in the 350, but it doesn't come close to the capability of the S60 Recharge. Fuel consumption of this V6 is also high, rating at 12.2/9.0 L/100 km (city/highway). The more powerful S60 Recharge lowers fuel consumption to 7.0 L/100 km (highway).

The 2021 Volvo S60: is a top safety pick

The S60 is designated by IIHS as a 2021 Top Safety Pick+, a recognition that few vehicles receive. The S50 rates higher than the IS in passenger lower leg protection in the Driver Injury Measures category. This provides the S60 an advantage in its overall rating.

The Volvo S60 pairs perfect Scandinavian style with great power and technologies. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.
