2021 Volvo XC60 vs. 2021 BMW X3: When Your Family Needs More

The XC60 is an advanced SUV that offers comfort, innovative technology, and layered safety that combines into a refined family vehicle. With several powertrains, including a powerful and efficient hybrid, the XC60 is a platform that offers the right amount of power for your needs.

The midsize SUV segment features many competitors, including the BMW X3. Here, we compare both to see how the XC60 measures up.

The 2021 Volvo XC60 has a powertrain advantage

The XC60 features several powertrain options so you can access the performance and efficiency you need. The T5 AWD Momentum includes a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder that generates 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.

The T6-equipped Volvo trims feature a supercharged four-cylinder that increases horsepower to 316 and torque to 295 lb-ft. All XC60 PHEV models are equipped with the T8 hybrid system that increases horsepower to 400 and torque to 472 lb-ft, and all the way to 415 hp and 494 lb-ft in the Polestar Engineered trim.

The X3's primary powertrain is a turbocharged 2.0-litre that produces 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The turbocharged M40i is the most powerful X3 at 385 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. However, it doesn't quite match the XC60's top powertrain.

The X3's xDrive30e hybrid model is limited to 288 net horsepower, and the Volvo's T8 hybrid outranks it by 112 horsepower. The city fuel economy rating for the XC60 is an efficient 9.1 L/100 km, whereas the X3 arrives in a distant second place at 11.1 L/100 km.

The 2021 Volvo XC60 is a true family SUV

The XC60 features a luxurious and practical cabin that is designed for comfortable travel. This starts with passenger volume that exceeds the capabilities of the X3 and other competitors. Along with the XC60's passenger volume advantage, it also features better technologies.

For example, the Volvo Sensus system surpasses the X3’s infotainment technologies in terms of speed and access. The XC60 is also available with the semi-autonomous Pilot Assist system that seamlessly inputs throttle, brake and steering to keep you rested and safe on the road.

There are many other ways the XC60 proves itself to be a better choice than the X3. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.
