2021 XC40 vs. 2021 Mercedes Benz GLB: The XC40 Makes Surprising Revelations

You may know Volvo for sophisticated and roomy full-size vehicles. However, did you know Volvo has a compact SUV that is winning over a new generation of drivers? The XC40 features advanced engineering and features its larger cousins have, including impressive powertrain options that place it ahead of many competitors.

Here, we introduce the XC40 by comparing it to a segment competitor—the Mercedes-Benz GLB.

The 2021 Volvo XC40 offers more and better powertrain options

For people who prefer all-gas power, the T4 engine is available in the Momentum grade. Consisting of a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder, it offers a comfortable 187 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. You'll be impressed at the pump with a fuel consumption rating of 10.7/7.6 L/100 km (city/highway). For a boost in power, the T5 increases horsepower to 248 and torque to 258. This powertrain is available in all trims.

Before we discuss the third powertrain available with the XC40, let's see how the GLB compares. The GLB 250 offers a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that outputs 221 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This is similar in performance to the XC40's T5. However, the GLB does not have a lighter-powered, more urban option. The AMG GLB 35 increases output to 302 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, making this the most powerful option in the GLB lineup. However, the XC40 has an answer.

The XC40 Recharge is the all-electric version of the Volvo, and it impresses with the best output in this comparison and surprising range. The electric motor generates 402 horsepower and nearly 490 lb-ft of torque while providing a range of up to 335 km. The vehicle can be charged to 80% in as little as 40 minutes, making long-haul trips more feasible.

The 2021 XC40 Recharge has the right amount of room

Inside, the XC40 is full of style, technology, and comfort. It features up to 1030 mm of front headroom, 1040 mm / 917 mm of front/rear legroom, 1390 mm / 1388 mm of front/rear hip room, and more. It also offers a unique Scandinavian style and feel, along with many technologies not available in the GLB.
