2022 Volvo Recharge plug-in hybrid models get more range

Volvo Canada has announced that the 2022 Volvo Recharge plug-in hybrid model lineup has been significantly improved with a larger battery leading to more all-electric driving capability. The improvements touch upon every Volvo Recharge model, from the Volvo S60 Recharge to the 2022 Volvo XC60 Recharge SUV.

The most significant change is the added third layer of cells to the battery which increase nominal energy from 11.6 kWh to 18.8 kWh. The rear electric motor also gets more power which translates to better overall performance.

The table below shows the 2022 Volvo Recharge models offer significantly more range than the previous models.

Vehicles like the 2022 Volvo XC60 Recharge and the Volvo XC90 Recharge nearly double in available all-electric range. The more powerful rear electric motor now delivers 143 horsepower, a 65% increase in power which increases total overall power from 400 horsepower to 455. Volvo 2022 Recharge models are now the most powerful vehicles ever produced by Volvo.

The battery has enough performance to allow Volvo Recharge owners to pre-heat or pre-cool the cabin remotely via the Volvo Cars app without affecting all-electric range. There's also a new one-pedal driving system available on Volvo Recharge models starting with the Volvo XC60 Recharge and Volvo S90 Recharge. This system allows for accelerations and decelerations using only the accelerator and is a system normally found on electric vehicles only.

“Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles play an important role in the shift to electrification,” said Matt Girgis, managing director, Volvo Car Canada. “These upgraded powertrains will demonstrate the many benefits of an electric future and will serve as an enabling technology that will encourage more consumers to adopt the electric lifestyle.”
