2022 Volvo S60 vs. 2022 Audi A4: The Scandinavian Touch Wins Again

The compact luxury sedan has a lot to bring to the table. It has the sportiness and driving dynamics of a sports car, while providing plenty of space for passengers and cargo. The Volvo S60 has been bringing fresh technologies and styling to the segment and is a Canadian favourite because it is perfectly adapted to our climate.

Here, we compare the 2022 Volvo S60 with the 2022 Audi A4.

The 2022 Volvo S60 offers more power

The S60 sedan offers drivers two powerful and efficient engine options. First, the B5 engine is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that develops 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This engine uses a 48V mild hybrid system for optimal efficiency. It can be mated to a FWD configuration or the Volvo AWD system for more optimal traction all year.

The S60 Recharge uses the T8 plug-in powertrain. Its 2.0 L four-cylinder turbocharged and supercharged engine is paired to an electric motor and a high-output battery. It outputs an impressive 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque. This specific model also has a high-performance variant called Polestar Engineered. Using the same powertrain, it outputs 415 horsepower and is fitted with numerous high-performance and competition-inspired components.

The Volvo S60 Recharge can also travel for 37 kilometres on fully-electric propulsion and without using a single drop of fuel.

The Audi A4’s base engine is also a 2.0 L turbo, but it only outputs 201 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque, which is much lower than the S60’s base engine. If you opt for the 45 TFSI, you’ll get similar performance but less fuel efficiency in the city. The Audi A4’s most powerful powertrain option is in the S4, and it uses a turbo V6 to dish out 349 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, which is way behind what the S60 T8 powertrain can do.

The Audi A4 doesn’t have a plug-in hybrid either, which is a considerable disadvantage.

The 2022 Volvo S60 Recharge gives you more space and more tech

The S60 offers more cargo space than the Audi A4. While the S60 sedan offers 392 litres in the trunk, you’ll only get 340 litres of cargo volume with the Audi A4.

The Volvo S60 Recharge also delivers more technologies than the Audi A4. For example, the advanced air cleaner in the S60 prevents up to 95 per cent of hazardous PM 2.5 particles entering the cabin. This gives the driver and passengers a better riding experience. The Audi A4 doesn’t have this type of technology.
