2024 Volvo C40 Recharge: Enhanced Range and Powertrain Boost Performance
June 29 2023,
The 2024 Volvo C40 Recharge and its sibling, the XC40 Recharge, are set for a range bump, thanks to updated powertrains and the addition of new rear-wheel drive variants. This marks the first time that Volvo Car Canada will offer a fully-electric rear-wheel drive product, promising improved range without compromising the secure driving dynamics typical of Volvo vehicles.
The C40 Recharge's power boost comes courtesy of a second-generation permanent magnet electric motor driving the rear axles, developed in-house at Volvo. The Single Motor variant features a potent 185 kW (248 hp) e-motor, paired with an energy-dense 82 kWh battery pack. This combination allows for a considerable range boost, with the C40 achieving up to 477 km on the combined EPA test cycle (USA EPA Estimate, final certification pending).
The introduction of the in-house developed 255 hp electric motor on the rear axle, coupled with a new 147 hp asynchronous electric motor on the front axle, aids in improving range for the Twin Motor all-wheel drive variant. The C40 Recharge Twin Motor now boasts a range of up to 413 km from 364 km (USA EPA Estimate, final certification pending).
The boosted performance does not neglect aesthetic enhancements. For instance, a new 19-inch alloy wheel for both the C40 and XC40 Recharge enhances the overall appearance while reducing drag through its aerodynamic design. Also, new exterior paint colours and updates to available exterior themes have been incorporated across the Volvo line-up.
Charging times have also seen an upgrade, with the 82-kWh battery pack allowing for a top charging rate of 200 kW DC. This means that charging from 10-80 percent state-of-charge takes approximately 28 minutes, a noteworthy improvement.
The new-and-improved 2024 Volvo lineup, including the C40 Recharge, is slated to start production soon, with Canadian Volvo retailers expecting delivery in early fall. Volvo Canada’s ‘One Price Promise’ ensures a transparent, negotiation-free shopping experience for C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge buyers.
These upgrades, according to Javier Varela, COO and deputy CEO at Volvo Cars, are a significant stride towards Volvo’s goal of becoming a fully electric car maker by 2030.
