A look at the charging times and options on the Volvo XC40 Recharge

The Volvo XC40 Recharge offers a number of ways to charge its battery in order to adapt to any situation and different driving needs.
Level 2 charging
The most common way to charge the Volvo XC40 Recharge is by using a level 2 charger, which can be found in many public places as well as in the home. This type of charger can make the battery go from 20% to 90% state of charge in 8 to 10 hours, which makes it ideal to use overnight or when the vehicle is not in use during the day. Via the infotainment system or the Volvo app, drivers can schedule charging times in order to benefit from periods of lower electricity rates to save money and reduce the strain on the power grid.
Level 3 fast-charging
The other popular way to charge the Volvo XC40 Recharge is to use public level 3 DC fast-charging stations, which are usually found near highways or in places where vehicle traffic is heavy. These types of stations are much more powerful than residential systems, which allows them to charge the vehicle much more quickly. Indeed, the XC40 Recharge only takes 37 minutes to go from 10% to 80% charge when using a station capable of 150 kW. This makes it easy to plan long road trips that may require charging stops.
Level 1 household outlets
If no specialized EV charger is installed in a stopping place, this doesn’t mean that the XC40 Recharge is stranded. This is because the battery can accept a charge from a regular 120-volt household power outlet when using the charging cable provided with the vehicle. This method is slower than the others, with charging times that can reach 45 hours, but it can be useful in a situation where the vehicle is parked for a long period and no level 2 chargers are available.
