Volvo Cars has unveiled the latest iteration of its flagship hybrid SUV, the XC90, showcasing a range of impressive updates that enhance its already stellar reputation. This seven-seater premium vehicle combines comfort, safety, and efficiency in a package that's now more appealing than ever. 

Exterior Refinement 

The refreshed 2025 XC90 boasts a refreshed exterior design that exudes confidence and aligns with Volvo's transition towards full electrification. The updated look incorporates elements from the company's newest models, the EX30 and EX90, creating a more contemporary aesthetic. A key element of the design of the new 2025 XC90 is its front grille, which reimagines the traditional diagonal bar that has graced Volvo models for decades. One of the most significant improvements is the increased electric range of the plug-in hybrid variant. 

Interior Upgrades and Advanced Technology 

Inside, the 2025 Volvo XC90 receives a substantial makeover. The renewed interior features a larger central touchscreen with higher resolution, introducing Volvo's latest user experience for the Google-based infotainment system. This upgrade brings a host of new features and apps, along with the capability for regular over-the-air software updates. The redesigned front cabin showcases the best of contemporary Scandinavian design. A more horizontal dashboard incorporates decorative panels made from premium recycled materials, creating a textured finish. Vertical air vents and enhanced illumination contribute to a luxurious ambiance, especially noticeable at night. Practicality has also been improved, with additional storage space in the centre console and a conveniently placed wireless phone charger. These changes were implemented based on feedback from current XC90 owners, demonstrating Volvo's commitment to customer satisfaction.

As expected from a Volvo, the 2025 XC90 maintains its position as one of the safest vehicles on the road. It features an advanced safety cage and a comprehensive suite of active safety features, including lane departure prevention and collision avoidance systems for various scenarios. Comfort remains a priority, with improved suspension now standard across the range. Each damper adapts mechanically to road conditions, optimizing both comfort and stability. An optional air suspension system is available for those seeking the ultimate in ride quality, working in tandem with an active chassis that monitors driving conditions 500 times per second. 

Powertrain Options and Availability 

The 2025 Volvo XC90 is available with two electrified powertrains: The T8 Plug-in Hybrid and the B6 mild-hybrid. This latter engine features a 48V lithium-ion battery and an integrated starter/generator, reducing emissions and fuel consumption by up to 15 per cent in real-world driving conditions compared to the former T6 turbo and supercharged engine. For drivers who want even more power and efficiency, the T8 system uses a larger battery and a more powerful electric motor to provide enough range for most drivers to complete their daily commutes without using fuel.
