    The pros and cons of each 2021 Volvo XC60 engine lineup

    There are a lot of things to love about the 2021 Volvo XC60. It has more interior space than most of its rivals with over 1,400 litres of cargo space. It has an advanced infotainment system and a stunning, modern interior that delivers the refinement buyers seek. And it has a ton of engine options. If you’re not sure which engine option is right for you, this article will help.


    Here are the different engine options in the Volvo XC60 lineup and what they offer.


    2021 Volvo XC60 T5

     

    The 2021 Volvo XC60 T5 has 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque from a turbocharged four-cylinder engine.


    Pros


    • Most affordable and accessible engine
    • Provides a great balance between performance, efficiency, and handling (lower weight)
    • Great fuel economy

    Cons


    • Less power than the other engines in the lineup

     

    2021 Volvo XC60 T6

     

    The T6 takes the same turbocharged four-cylinder in the T5, but adds a supercharger. This means that the T6 delivers 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.


    Pros


    • One of the most affordable engines with over 300 horsepower in the segment
    • Great performance at every rev range, from low speed performance to highway passing
    • Simillar fuel economy to the T5

    Cons


    • Focused more on balance than outright performance




    2021 Volvo XC60 T8

     

    The XC60’s T8 engine is the plug-in hybrid engine in the XC60 lineup. It delivers 400 horsepower (!) and 27 kilometres of range.


    Pros


    • Incredible efficiency for a 400-horsepower engine
    • Useful range
    • 0-100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds

    Cons


    • More expensive option

     

    2021 Volvo XC60 T8 Polestar Engineered

     

    The T8 Polestar Engineered is designed to deliver remarkable performance paired with efficiency. It takes the T8 engine and engineers it for more performance with 415 horsepower. This engine delivers 415 horsepower.


    Pros


    • Offered in the distinct, impressive Polestar model
    • Great power with impressive efficiency
    • Less than 10 litres per 100 kilometres average fuel economy

    Cons


    • Offered only in the Polestar model which may be too much for some.
