Thinking EV? Think Volvo C40
October 27 2022,
As the automotive landscape continues its sprint towards fulfilling the EV mandates set out by a number of world governments, EVs and PHEVs are becoming more plentiful seemingly by the day. So as we start to see more and more of these, the search for something more unique and original is paramount.
Which is where the Volvo C40 Recharge comes in.
Looks to thrill
One thing you won’t hear very many people say when it comes to the C40 Recharge is tha tit looks “tame”, or “common”. The C40 Recharge’s tall-ish ride height and cabin suggests crossover or crossover coupe, but its steeply-raked rear window, aggressive wheel choices and signature head- and taillamps leave somewhat less to the imagination. The real highlight, however, is the C40’s take on the traditional Volvo vertical taillamp. They’re still somewhat vertical here, but since the rear window angle is so aggressive, they’ve had to follow suit.
Shift those electrons
Two electric motors provide over 400 horsepower and 486 pound-feet of torque. Each axle gets a motor of its own, meaning power delivery is instantaneous and can also be used to help the C40 shift more gamely through corners. It serves as living proof that while EVs are gaining popularity thanks mainly to gas- and emissions-free driving, there’s still plenty of driving fun to be had behind the wheel of one.
Keeping Mother Earth in mind
The C40 Recharge gets a completely leather-free interior, and those carpets? Well, they’re actually crafted from partially recycled materials. It’s all in the name of a more sustainable design practice and it does well to compliment the other naturalist twists surrounding the C40 Recharge, such as one of the colours being named “Fjord Blue” and the various interior panel inserts that are styles to look like topographical maps. So not only are you driving emissions-free, you’re in a vehicle that is built with a similar frame of mind.
