Three Reasons to Buy a Volvo XC60 Instead of a Mercedes-Benz GLC

The XC60 is part art form and part engineering masterpiece in a full-time family vehicle. Many new owners enjoy its versatility, confident safety, Scandinavian style, and efficient output. This has become so well-known that the XC60 is a European best-seller and is making an impact in Canada. Now is a great time to explore the XC60 because Volvo just made it easier to own one with a limited-time $1,500 rebate.

Although there are many reasons to own an XC60, let us rise to the challenge of providing you three reasons to buy it over the Mercedes-Benz GLC.

The 2021 Volvo XC60 creates impressive power and better efficiency

Three advanced powertrains drive the XC60 lineup. The T5 engine, offered in the Momentum, generates 250 family-carrying horsepower. The Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 has nearly identical power, but the XC60 Momentum achieves better efficiency with a rating of 11.1/8.3 L/100 km (city/highway).

The XC60's T6 engine boosts output to 316 horsepower, and it is offered in three trims. The series moves to its apex with the XC60 Recharge powered by the T8 powertrain. Available in several trims, it generates 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque, even more with the Polestar Engineered variant. Compared to the GLC, it features the best fuel consumption, rating at 9.5/8.7 L/100 km.

The GLC lineup continues with AMG models. The AMG GLC 43 doesn't quite have the output of the XC60 Recharge, but it still consumes more fuel at 13.1/9.6 L/100 km. Next up, the AMG GLC 63 S has higher horsepower, but you will pay the highest MSRP and fuel bill with a consumption rating of 15.0/10.9 L/100 km.

The 2021 Volvo XC60 is designed for better comfort

The XC60 clearly has more front headroom, legroom, and shoulder room than the GLC. Rear seat passengers stretch out with more rear leg room, too. When it is time to flex the XC60 to maximize cargo room, it makes available up to 1,792 litres of cargo volume—200 more than the GLC.

The 2021 Volvo XC60 earns a top safety designation

The XC60 is a 2021 Top Safety Pick+, designated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. This recognizes the quality of all safety systems, inside and out. The GLC did not earn this designation.
