Volvo Begins Deliveries of the 2025 EX90 Later this Month
September 17 2024,
Volvo has begun shipping its highly anticipated fully electric flagship SUV, the 2025 EX90, to retailers in the United States, Canada, and Europe. The first customers are expected to receive their vehicles before the end of the month, with delivery ramp-up planned into early 2025.
The EX90 represents a significant milestone for Volvo, setting new standards in safety, sustainability, and user-centric technology for the brand. It is the company's first vehicle powered by a central computing system and designed exclusively as a fully electric model, capable of a range up to 600 km.
Jim Rowan, Volvo's CEO, recently completed a 950 km road trip across three U.S. states to test the EX90's capabilities. "After driving it through various conditions and road surfaces, I can confidently say that the EX90 is the best car we have ever made," Rowan stated. He praised the vehicle's charging, handling, ride comfort, cabin quietness, sound system, reliability, and user interface.
The 2025 Volvo EX90's advanced computing system is built on the NVIDIA DRIVE platform and Qualcomm's Snapdragon Cockpit Platform, working in tandem with Volvo's in-house developed software. This integration allows for seamless operation of key functions, from safety and infotainment to battery management.
Safety remains a top priority for Volvo, and the EX90 is equipped with a suite of sensors including radars, cameras, and a lidar. This technology, coupled with 5G connectivity and regular over-the-air software updates, enables continuous improvement of the vehicle's features and functionality over time. Particularly noteworthy is the Lidar sensor, as this new technology allows the EX90 to better understand its surroundings by creating a picture of the road, the obstacles, and the traffic.
In a world first, the 2025 Volvo EX90 offers an Abbey Road Studios mode as part of its optional top-level Bowers & Wilkins audio system. The vehicle also introduces bi-directional charging capabilities, allowing owners to contribute to a more balanced power grid by sending power back to the utility companies when demand is increased, which can result in significant rebates on energy costs.
Production of the 2025 EX90 commenced at Volvo's recently upgraded manufacturing plant near Charleston, South Carolina. The facility now has the capacity to produce up to 150,000 units annually, following extensive investments in body, paint, and battery production facilities.
The launch of the EX90 marks the beginning of a new era for Volvo Cars as it transitions to a fully electric future. As the automotive industry shifts towards renewable energy and sustainability, Volvo aims to solidify its position as a leader in electric vehicle technology and innovation.
