Volvo Cars Integrates Prime Video and Plans YouTube Rollout
September 15 2023,
In a move aimed at enhancing the in-car experience, Volvo Cars has announced the integration of Prime Video into its vehicles. Effective September 18, the service will become available as a pre-installed app through a gradual over-the-air (OTA) update in all markets where Google apps and services are accessible. Volvo Cars is one of the pioneers in the automotive industry to offer Prime Video in its lineup, and they plan to introduce YouTube in the near future for cars with built-in Google services.
Erik Severinson, the global head of new car programmes at Volvo Cars, emphasized the significance of these new additions. "Adding access to services such as Prime Video and YouTube in our cars bolsters the continuously growing list of software and applications to make lives for our drivers better," he said. "We are delivering on our promise of building cars that grow with our customers over time."
A note on safety: Volvo Cars has specified that the video streaming feature will only be accessible when the vehicle is fully stationary. This aligns with the company’s ongoing commitment to road safety.
To download Prime Video, users will need to access Google Play, while the forthcoming YouTube service will come pre-installed as part of the aforementioned OTA updates.
With these new features, Volvo Cars is taking another step in its journey to offer a comprehensive in-car entertainment ecosystem, while also maintaining its focus on safety.
