The Volvo XC90 Recharge adopts a new name for 2022, but this is far from the only change that benefits Plug-in hybrid version of the largest SUV from Volvo
A new name for the same great drivetrain
For 2022, the plug-in hybrid version of the XC90 adopts the Recharge name, introduced on the XC40 and C40 Recharge electric models. This is to tie the plug-in hybrid variant to Volvo’s electrification goals and to pave the way for a future all electric XC90. The powertrain of the XC90 recharge consists of an 18.8 kWh battery and a 65-kW electric motor that drives the rear wheels, while a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine powers the front wheels. This combo is capable of producing 400 horsepower and an all-electric range of up to 31 kilometers. This is sufficient for many owners to complete all of their daily trips without using a single drop of fuel.
Other Changes for 2022
2022 sees a few changes made to the XC90 Recharge, including a new rear bumper with hidden exhaust tips that gives the vehicle a cleaner and more modern appearance when seen from the back. Modifications to the option packages are also on the program for 2022, with the Climate Package gaining a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats. The Lounge 1 package adds a 360-degree camera system, a head up display and an enhanced air purification system that removes harmful particulates from the air that comes into the cabin. The steering wheel is now covered in a vegan material, following Volvo’s goal to become more sustainable, but leather wrapping is still available, if you so wish.
