What’s new for the 2022 Volvo S60?
May 10 2022,
The 2022 Volvo S60 remains largely the same premium sedan that has attracted many discerning buyers last year, but a couple of changes improve it for 2022.
The B5 powertrain
The 2022 Volvo S60 comes standard with the new B5 powertrain, which replaces the previous T5 engine. This new powertrain is actually that same 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but it is now equipped with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. This improves its fuel efficiency without limiting its power, since it still produces 247 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This engine is standard with front-wheel drive, but it can also be ordered with all-wheel drive.
The S60 Recharge
The Recharge powertrain is where most of the changes are for the 2022 Volvo S60. Indeed, this plug-in hybrid system has seen its battery increase in order to provide a better electric-only range, which is now up to 66 kilometers. The Recharge powertrain also comes with a more powerful rear electric motor, which allows the Polestar Engineered model to become the most powerful Volvo sedan ever made, with 455 horsepower. The larger rear motor also has a beneficial effect on the performance and capabilities of the AWD system since it is now capable of transferring more power to the rear axle.
A number of modifications
The changes don’t stop there, since even if it might not be readily apparent, the 2022 Volvo S60 has been the subject of many small modifications. For example, new wheel designs, new paint colours and square exhaust tips on the B5 Inscription have all made their way to the lineup, as did the wireless phone charger, new taillamps and a new leather-free covering on the steering wheel. The available advance pack now adds a new air filtration system to the standard automatic climate control system. All of these changes put together make the 2022 Volvo S60 an improved version of the 2021 model in terms of style and function.
